Ethos Collective and Úm Ba La are launching Scene Incubator, a recurring Sunday series built around Saigon’s original acts. Starting May 17, every other Sunday brings two to three bands to a professional stage with an affordable flat fee and a drink included. First lineup: Lulaby, Route 59, and ChipPunks.

Sát Rát Thrash! at Blue Monkey brought together Encased in Flesh, Cút Lộn, Elbowdrop, KINH, and Finnish crossover force Foreseen for a night that had no business going as hard as it did. Saigon Sailor delivered a relentless night of uncompromised. Cút Lộn opened with brute-force heavy hardcore. COCC followed, trapping the room in suffocating post-rock loops. Dis Fig plunged the floor into post-industrial, mechanical dread, before fan-favorites 9xacly ignited a frantic pit, until the cops abruptly pulled the plug.
Saigon punk band Stray Station are back from hiatus with new single “Don’t Think,” and they’ve made their return with the same no-fuss approach as their last release. The sound has shifted toward slower, weightier punk territory, but the band’s raw energy and directness remain completely intact.
Five original bands. A jury of international producers. Six guaranteed paid gigs on the line. Blue Monkey is building something Saigon’s underground music scene has needed for a long time — and it starts April 3rd.
