Scene Incubator #4: Overnine, Vers de Société, Quạ Than
Ethos Collective x Um Ba La original show series Scene Incubator returns with three fresh acts.
Joining the party this time:
Quạ Than is a Ho Chi Minh City–based musician and visual artist with a deep affinity for rock and metal. His work spans both sound and image, treating the two as parts of a single creative practice rather than separate pursuits. His output has never been confined to one lane. Earlier releases include EPs that drew on blues and pop, reflecting a willingness to follow an idea wherever it leads rather than settling into a fixed sound. That restlessness has shaped a body of work defined more by curiosity than by genre.
Vers de Société is a Ho Chi Minh City punk band that puts politics at the front of everything they do. The name comes from a French term for witty, poetic, often ironic reflections on social issues, and the band lives up to it. Their songs confront the things they’re frustrated with in society, openly expressing their beliefs without softening the edges. Live, the band is led from behind the kit. Their drummer anchors the set with an outgoing energy, a strong voice, and a commanding presence, introducing each track and its themes while moving between Vietnamese and English so the songs land in both languages
Overnine is a four-piece pop-punk and pop-rock band formed in 2020 by a group of music students who found common ground in their shared sound and creative direction. That shared vision is where the name came from, and it’s carried the band ever since. Their music lives in the bright, playful corners of pop punk, with songs about love and a vibrant, energetic feel. It’s the kind of sound built for singing along, full of hooks and warmth rather than edge.
