The Hanoi band’s new single “Rotcult” is a witty read on the society we’ve built online, communication and internet culture turned into something you can throw your body at. There’s no slow build here. GAI 荄 go in hard from the first beat, leaning into the riffy, modern metal style they’ve made their own, with a bounce in the rhythm that practically demands you move.
And move they did. That bouncy pattern maps cleanly onto street-style hip-hop dance, and the band leaned on it heavily in the “Rotcult” video, bringing dancers Phương Xù, Mikey B, and Lewis into the frame. Directed by Quốc Khanh, with Quốc Khanh and GAI 荄 handling the DOP, the video makes the connection between the song’s physical pulse and the movement explicit.
The single also lands hot on the heels of a big moment abroad: the band just returned from Mongolia, where they played ARA Fest, one of the country’s biggest festivals.
