No Sleep Session is a self-produced indie trio from Ho Chi Minh City, blending indie pop, funk, R&B, and atmospheric soundscapes. First known for viral music-based content, they've since turned inward, building an entire DIY ecosystem of sound and visuals around the 2025 EP Xoay Một Vòng and a debut album in progress.

No Sleep Session began, fittingly, with a refusal to sleep on music. The idea took root around 2018 while the three founders were still in school, and the band formally came together in March 2021, three friends, all born in 2002, pooling a shared obsession into something that was equal parts band and creative studio.

Their first real wave of recognition arrived through content. A series of videos in which the band dissected and reconstructed the styles of well-known Vietnamese indie acts caught fire online, landing somewhere between affectionate parody and genuine musical analysis, close enough to the source to be uncanny, but always stamped with the group’s own fingerprint. It was a clever entry point: it showed an audience that No Sleep Session understood the scene from the inside out, and that they could write in almost any dialect of it.

What followed was a deliberate pivot. After the initial burst of attention, the band turned its focus toward making music more seriously, centering its work on introspective experience, the way emotion moves and loops, and the connection between how a song sounds and how it looks. Their palette is wide by design, the nostalgic warmth of R&B, funk, and jazz braided together with the modern pulse of rock, pop balladry, soul, and hip-hop, held together by gentle vocals, poetic lyricism, and an unhurried, life-affirming spirit.

That breadth is matched by an almost total self-reliance. Operating with a fierce DIY ethic, No Sleep Session handles nearly every part of their output in-house: songwriting, production, mixing and mastering, visual direction, video production, and creative content. Rather than treating music and image as separate jobs, they’ve built an entire creative ecosystem around the two, a closed loop where a song, its video, and the story behind it are all made by the same three hands.

Their catalog traces that evolution. The 2023 release “Tuyển tập nhạc Không Ngủ dành cho người lớn” gathered early songs like “Đời Xanh” and “Đôi Ta Trong Mơ,” alongside standalone singles such as “Nếu Có Một Ngày” and 2024’s “Khi Hành Tinh Ngừng Quay.” The 2025 EP “Xoay Một Vòng” marked a clear step up in ambition: conceived as a four-part cycle mapped to four elements and centered on the idea of the soul, it threads symphonic instrumentation through modern production, with the gospel-tinted “Tua Lại.”

On stage, No Sleep Session perform as a live band supported by backing tracks, leaning into groove, energy, and an immersive sense of occasion rather than strict reproduction. Their reach has grown alongside their craft: by the band’s own count, more than 1.6 million total Spotify streams and over 28,000 YouTube subscribers. They’ve stepped beyond their own releases into the wider scene, recently appearing as special guests at a Ho Chi Minh City showcase.

With a debut album now in the works, No Sleep Session sit at an interesting threshold: a group that arrived through internet wit and has spent the years since proving there’s real depth underneath it. The name was always a half-joke and a half-manifesto: don’t sleep on music.
