What began as a one-man outlet for tech and art has matured into one of Vietnam’s most intriguing music projects. Starting as a self-internship scheme and evolving from the ashes of a high school rock band, XOI has become a space where raw musical exploration meets fiercely independent production.
XOI, the ever-evolving creative project founded in 2013 by Cuong in the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, has just released not one, but two new albums – “The One Who Holds the Flame” and its Vietnamese counterpart “Bản Ballad Của Tèo“. Both releases feature ten tracks and are now available on all major streaming platforms.
While much of XOI’s energy over the years has been split between music, software development, and literature, this release marks a clear intention to bring music back to the front. The songs traverse themes of self-reflection, isolation, and quiet rebellion, held together by tightly crafted guitar work and understated but emotive vocal delivery.
Be sure to catch this album premiere in person on the 9th of May at Cafe Yoko.
