Blending Argentine soul with American grit and Southeast Asian influence, Luis Zapiola is an independent songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Vietnam. His music lives at the crossroads of post-britpop, alternative rock, and emotionally rich storytelling. Whether he’s working from behind the drum kit, shaping a bassline, or leading a packed room with his anthemic choruses, Luis brings an intense sincerity and depth to everything he touches.
His songwriting is instantly recognizable—catchy but weighty, emotional with a dark shimmer, always aimed at the heart. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences and everyday struggles, his compositions hit a nerve. The result is a body of work that feels intimate, vulnerable, and built for loudspeakers.

Luis has been active in Vietnam’s music community for years, contributing to well-regarded projects like Anesthetic Youth và Coastal Connection, but his solo output is where his voice truly shines. Songs like “Hours,” “Saigon,” “Everything I Own,” và “Tonight” have carved out a growing following for their lyrical honesty and stadium-sized hooks.
In July 2023, Luis released his debut full-length album, “Dark Days“, a raw, introspective collection of songs that found both critical and listener success in Vietnam and abroad. The album’s emotional weight is paired with sleek production and genre-blending arrangements that pull from indie rock, Britpop, and 2000s alt revivalism. Its physical release, in collaboration with LP Club Hanoi, further cemented Luis as a staple in Vietnam’s underground and indie scenes.
Luis’s live show brings together a powerhouse group of collaborators, including producer and songwriter Nguyễn Thái Thành Trí (Nghe, RBID), drummer Bảo Lâm (Nhao), and guitarist Holland Chadwick (Coastal Connection). This full-band setup allows his songs to soar live, balancing precision with the emotional urgency that defines his recorded work.
He’s performed at many of Vietnam’s most iconic music spaces, including Yoko Café, Indika, The Hideout, Hòa Bình Theatre, and the HOZO Inspired Talent showcase, building a loyal audience through consistent and memorable shows.
Beyond his solo career, Luis is also a community builder and scene supporter. He is the founder of Zoned Out Saigon, a recurring indie rock series that gives emerging alt artists a dedicated space to perform, grow, and connect. Through this platform, he’s helped solidify Saigon as a city with a thriving and increasingly cohesive alternative music ecosystem.
Luis Zapiola continues to push boundaries, both in his music and his role in the broader creative community. With new releases on the horizon, an ever-growing presence on stages across Vietnam, and a clear vision for elevating local indie talent, Luis is more than a promising young artist—he’s a driving force in Southeast Asia’s evolving rock landscape.
