Emerging from Hanoi in December 2020, Rêvasseur is a melodic death metal band that unites members from Vietnam, Japan, and New Zealand. Their diverse backgrounds converge to create a sound that pays homage to 1990s Swedish death metal while forging a distinct identity within Vietnam’s metal scene.

Rêvasseur’s debut EP, In Doubtless Memory (2021), introduced their blend of aggressive riffs and melodic structures. Building on this foundation, their 2023 full-length album, TALISMAN, showcased a matured sound characterized by buzzsaw guitars, dual harmonies, and intense vocals. The album features collaborations with artists like Quan Troc (Bloodshed), Nattsvärd (Leukotomy), and Viktor (KAALI), highlighting their commitment to community and musical exploration.

Rêvasseur has collaborated with Australian atmospheric black metal band Vixenta on singles such as “Salutations” and “Faint Whispers.” Their lyrical content delves into themes of Lovecraftian horror, mysticism, and misanthropy, drawing inspiration from dark fantasy literature and real-world events. Notably, the track “Sic Semper Tyrannis” reflects on the downfall of tyrants, inspired by vocalist Liam W.’s readings and personal experiences.

Their live shows are known for their intensity and have solidified their reputation as a leading force in Vietnam’s metal community.

Looking ahead, Rêvasseur plans to release their second full-length album between late 2025 and early 2026. They are also preparing to film a music video for an upcoming single and aim to embark on international tours across Southeast Asia in 2026. Their ongoing efforts continue to push the boundaries of melodic death metal in the region.
