Emerging from Hanoi’s underground metal scene in early 2024, Putrid Vomit Christ is a death/doom duo formed by seasoned musicians I.C. (Elcrost) and L.N. (ROT, Blood Serpent, ex-Leukotomy, ex-Bloodshed). Their collaboration channels a shared vision of crafting music that delves into themes of decadence, filth, and anti-religious sentiment, drawing inspiration from the works of Georges Bataille and the visceral aesthetics of early death metal.

Putrid Vomit Christ’s sound is characterized by a fusion of death metal’s raw aggression and doom metal’s oppressive atmosphere. Their debut demo, “Live Demo #1 – Hai Phong, 21.07.24,” released through House of Ygra, captures the band’s initial foray into live performance, showcasing their ability to evoke a sense of dread and decay.

Their subsequent release, “Perpetual Intercourse“, co-released by House of Ygra and Poland’s Godz Ov War Productions, presents five tracks that delve deeper into the band’s thematic and sonic explorations. The demo has been noted for its cavernous production, sludge-rasped vocals, and mid-paced death metal riffs that recall the early works of bands like Hooded Menace and Coffins. Tracks such as “Vacuous Ecstasy” and “Dissecting an Incestuous Dream” exemplify the band’s commitment to crafting music that is both unsettling and compelling.

Since their inception, Putrid Vomit Christ has become a prominent act in Vietnam’s metal community, performing at notable events such as Oathean x Method: Live in Hanoi, LUNARSEA – Live in Vietnam: Wandering in the Void, X-Metal: Dead Marching, PAX ROMANA, and OPHIDIA.

Putrid Vomit Christ will continue to push the boundaries of death/doom metal. They’re active both locally and internationally and as it seems the audience will just hear more from this band.
