Born from the Hanoi underground scene, Mèow Lạc is a genre-defying alternative rock band known for their creative unpredictability and genre-hopping sonic approach. The project began around 2019 when a group of musicians with roots in the local singer-songwriter movement began experimenting beyond the boundaries of folk and acoustic sounds. Taking inspiration from everything from metal and progressive rock to pop and electronic music, Mèow Lạc developed an eccentric and fluid musical identity, driven by a desire to create something both meaningful and accessible.

The name “Mèow Lạc,” roughly translated to “Lost Cat,” speaks to the band’s aesthetic — a little wandering, a little whimsical, and entirely unafraid to get lost in their musical journey. The band’s current lineup includes Nguyễn Lê on vocals and guitar, Tô Ra on drums, and Hoàng Phương on keyboards — a trio whose chemistry is evident both on stage and in the studio.

Though the band took time to find their sound, once it clicked, they surged forward with a clear artistic vision. That momentum led to the creation of a string of original releases that pushed the edges of Vietnam’s contemporary rock scene.

Mèow Lạc has built a discography in just a few short years. Their first full-length record, “Rừng Bê Tông” (Concrete Jungle), arrived in 2022, presenting a surreal yet grounded take on urban life through a blend of distorted riffs, off-kilter grooves, and atmospheric keys.

2023 saw a major creative burst, with the band releasing both an EP and an album. Their EP, “Lạc-Core,” played with heavier tones and abstract structures, diving further into the extremes of their sound. Later that year, the release of “Sugar Rush”, a 10-track album, marked a turning point. It balanced polish and experimentation, capturing the band’s maturity and delivering emotionally charged tracks that connected with a wider audience. Standout singles from the album, like “Cảm ơn và hẹn gặp lại,” hinted at the group’s growing interest in combining catchy songwriting with experimental arrangements.

Mèow Lạc has grown into one of the most recognizable names in the country’s rock and indie circuit. Over the years, they’ve performed on almost every major stage across Vietnam — from intimate club nights in Hanoi to large-scale rock festivals in the South. Their performances are known for being both emotionally raw and sonically rich, blending technical precision with a sense of spontaneous fun.

2023 was a breakout year for the band on the live front as well, with a string of celebrated shows that included national tours and festival appearances, bringing their music to new audiences across the country.
