Hanoi’s death metal act Rêvasseur returns with “Geld the Liars,” a surprise single dropped without warning just hours before their appearance at House of Ygra’s Scumfest this past weekend. No teasers, no pre-release fanfare, just a direct hit of sonic weight announcing the band’s upcoming second full-length LP, expected later this year.
Best known for their razor-sharp take on melodic death metal, Rêvasseur have long stood out in Vietnam’s extreme music scene for their precision and conviction. With “Geld the Liars,” they trade blistering tempos for a slower, heavier, doom-laden sound. The track still nods to their melodic roots with Scandinavian-inspired solos, but its overall tone is darker, more deliberate, and thematically charged.
The song “is about the hypocrisy of those who wear the vestments of power — the false morality, the parasitism, the vile acts amongst the alcoves. Wolves in sheep’s clothing, the lot of them.” They add: “This track is our clarion call to fight back against mental control and the restriction of one’s beliefs. The mind is the strongest weapon you have. Keep it sharp.”
