GAI 荄 officially launched in March 2024, quickly making an impact on the Vietnamese heavy music scene with their distinct fusion of nu-metal and deathcore, a genre they’ve coined as nü-deth. Formed by Tone Trung (guitar), Liam W (vocals/lyrics), Viet Nhat (guitar), Duc Lun (bass), and Hieu Hoang (drums), the band brings together a diverse set of influences, blending groove-laden riffs with unrelenting aggression. Their music reflects both raw emotion and technical precision, channeling modern heaviness while keeping their sound deeply personal.

Shortly after their formation, GAI began releasing a series of singles, building anticipation for their debut album. “Same Old Story” was the first to introduce listeners to their crushing yet melodic approach, followed by “Gutter Rat,” a track that showcased their groove-driven intensity. With each release, their sound became heavier and more refined. Songs like “Vive La Déception” and “Phobetor” expanded their sonic palette, incorporating eerie atmospheres and unexpected breakdowns. The band’s most ambitious track yet, “False Boy,” featured guest vocals from Frankie Palmeri of Emmure, marking an important milestone for the young band and placing them on the radar of international metal fans.
GAI has already proven themselves as a formidable live act, delivering explosive performances across Vietnam. Their most significant shows so far include the Hanoi Rock City 14th Birthday Show, a night that introduced their energy to a wider underground audience, and the Rooster Beers End Of Year Show in Saigon, where they further cemented their reputation for high-intensity performances. As their following grows, so do their ambitions.
Looking ahead, GAI is gearing up for their biggest year yet. Their debut album is set for release on May 15, 2025, an event they are actively crowdfunding through Kickstarter, allowing fans to directly support the band’s journey. The band is also preparing for international exposure, with a confirmed spot at SummerBlast Bangkok, sharing the stage with Alpha Wolf, Within Destruction, and Distant. Later in the year, they will also perform at Alpha Wolf’s Hanoi show, a significant opportunity to showcase their music alongside one of modern metalcore’s biggest names. By the end of 2025, they plan to embark on a Southeast Asian tour, expanding their reach to new audiences across the region.
GAI maintains a strong connection with their growing fanbase through social media and streaming platforms, consistently pushing their music beyond Vietnam’s borders. With a relentless work ethic, genre-defying sound, and powerful live presence, GAI is poised to become one of Southeast Asia’s most exciting heavy acts in the coming years.
